If you got injured on the job, you may be entitled to receive workers compensation through the workers compensation program issued by the state. To start the process, simply speak to a workers compensation attorney and learn about your rights and what can be done in your case, as well if you are eligible to file for work comp or not. But, every attorney will tell you that the most important thing you should do after sustaining the injury is visiting the doctor’s office.

Pre-Designate A Doctor

Getting well should be your number one priority. However, the situation can get a little complicated as you have received an injury at work, and since your medical coverage comes from your employer’s insurance company, you won’t really have the chance to visit your own doctor. You will only be able to visit the doctor’s appointed by the insurance company.

However, in some cases the employer will give his employees a chance to pre-designate a physician or a doctor in advance, so that in case of an injury, they may have someone to take care of them. But, this rarely occurs as the insurance company appoints doctors by their own standards. What this means is that you may not always get the best doctor, or the most expensive one, but that is something that you cannot choose nor affect.

Get Access To Other Doctors

If you are not happy with the doctor appointed by the insurance company, if you don’t like the way you are treated or if there are some other problems, you can always speak to a workers compensation lawyer and seek professional help. Most of the attorneys can help you get access to other doctors, not only those appointed by the insurance company. This will require you to hire an attorney to represent you and your case. Hiring an attorney is not a bad thing, and it usually helps your case a lot. For starters, you will receive someone to represent you, negotiate the settlement for you, guide you in the right direction, and grant you access to other doctors. That way, you will be able to get second opinion from another doctor, and get better treatment.

Use The Medical Insurance

Keep in mind that if you were offered to pre-designate a doctor of physician before you received an injury, you may be able to visit that doctor and seek help. That is the only case where you can visit your own doctor. In other cases, any visitation to any other doctor other than the ones appointed by the insurance company will cost you a lot of money which you will have to pay right out of your own pocket. The medical insurance only covers the appointed doctors, which is why it is highly recommended that you only visit those doctors appointed by the insurance company in order to avoid any potential complications which may affect your workers compensation claim. Speak to your workers compensation attorney to learn additional information about which doctor you are allowed to see in case of an injury.
