Domestic violence is present all over the world, and the state of Florida is no stranger to this reality. In fact, statistics show that it is a frequent problem in this part of the country.

Domestic Violence Statistics in Florida

According to the World Population Review (2023), in the United States, about 10 million people are victims of domestic violence each year. So far in the year 2023, the state of Florida shows the following data in this regard:

1. Violence against women: 37%
2. Violence against men: 29.3%

These data show women as the primary victims of acts of domestic violence, being 7.7 percentage points above men in situations of this type.

On the other hand, these data also reveal the frequency with which this type of violence is present within Florida families because if we compare them with the national average, the result is the following:

Which, in turn, makes it necessary for the Floridian citizen to be well informed about it in order to protect themselves, prevent dire consequences, and seek the appropriate defense if necessary.

How is domestic violence punished?

As a preventive and protective measure, victims of domestic violence can request a restraining order. This translates into the impossibility of the defendant to approach the victim or communicate with her.

If there are aggravating circumstances that justify it, the perpetrator of this type of violence can be arrested and also sentenced. This depends on the evidence that is gathered during the process.
