incident leading to arrest occurred (federal cases are handled in
different courthouses than state cases).
MISDEMEANORS AND FELONIES:
If the arrest or incident which led to your Florida state criminal
law case was anywhere in Walton County, north end or in south Walton
County, your case will be litigated in the courthouse located in
DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

The
Walton County Jail is located about one mile from the
Defuniak Springs,
Florida, courthouse. NOTE: The jail has moved and is no longer located
next to the courthouse.
Attorneys and lawyers from the
surrounding area handle all types of cases at the Defuniak Springs courthouse,
including Florida criminal and civil law cases. Defuniak Springs area attorneys
are well aware of the updated security protocols now that the Defuniak
Springs
Courthouse is a secure facility. Unlike the courthouse in Shalimar,
Florida, the Defuniak Springs facility has one entrance and a security
checkpoint. This is a recent development, and a welcome one, too.
Cobb Criminal Defense Law firm routinely handles Walton County
criminal cases from our base offices in Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola,
Florida. The fax, the phone, the Internet and the fax machine have
revolutionized the practice of Florida criminal law. We have found that
most of our clients would rather handle most legal matters over the
phone or by e-mail rather than waste an hour or more in drive time to
sign a routine document or answer a question.
Think of it this way: If we put an office in Sandestin, and our
client lived in the DeFuniak Springs area, a trip to our office would
take about two hours of total drive time. If we put one in DeFuniak
Springs, and our client lived in Sandestin, the same would be true. This
just doesn't make sense. Quality service is not dependent upon a
building location: Quality is in people, not buildings.
Even clients with cases in the cities where we have a physical office
prefer phone appointments. This makes a lot of sense when you factor
that a short distance drive from just about anywhere in the Destin -
fort Walton Beach area to our office will take at least a half of an
hour one way - traffic is that bad, and time is too valuable to waste.
If you would prefer an in office appointment, that can always be
arranged.
