A few years ago, I was speaking to a colleague about the training of new lawyers. Anyone who graduates law school and passes the Bar Exam can become a criminal defense attorney in Florida - even when they have no experience. Needless to say, this is a problem for their clients.

After talking for a while, we decided to form a chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for lawyers in Okaloosa and Walton counties. I was president for the first three years, and when I finally managed to get myself replaced, I was elected Secretary.

I hold that post today, as we move to another level of education, events, seminars and publications. I still edit the Florida Criminal Law Newsletter, which now has a circulation approaching 1000 lawyers. Every lawyer in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton Counties gets a copy. Other members of the public are subscribers, too.

Our mission is to educate lawyers and lay people about important issues in Florida criminal law.

If you would like to be a subscriber, just let us know.
